SOLD...bummer

Just a quick note to say...If a painting is SOLD (that's the best word an artist knows) do not fear.  You can order a giclee or better yet I can paint one that is similar just for YOU.  So don't be shy and send me an email at sandypieper.art@gmail.com

BBQ and Beer Festival

Our debut event was a perfect day!  Kirk made a great Vanna White as he assisted in the set up, sales, and take down of our display.  The kids - Kate, Connor and Tommy came for a visit which made it even more fun.

I even took a picture of the gal that bought my first original sold at an event.  She was so much fun to meet and talk with.  She loved the dancers and chose the Female Hip Hop.

We can't wait for more events in the future...we will hopefully be in Loveland, CO in August....a great break from the AZ summer heat.

Retro Fever

Platform shoes, bell bottoms, polyester and disco balls...you know you loved that era - good ol' 1977 or so.  Yea think John Travolta would like this colorful rendition of that era? A special kind of person will bring this one home.

Hip Hop Boogie

With the music playing loud these 2 cool cats jumped right on to my canvas.  Full of movement and life the colors add to the rhythm!  I named them Hip Hop Boogie but I was listening to Jimmy Buffett and Jack Johnson while I painted them

Holy Cow 2

If you followed the pictures below on the different steps one of my paintings can go thru then you'll enjoy seeing this picture it  is the finished piece.
Like the first Holy Cow she has attitude! I love that it shows in her eyes.

Now on to a bigger canvas for this ol' girl...a custom commissioned piece that will end up in Lake Tahoe!

Imagine

I "IMAGINE" a lot of things when I paint.  I think this piece shows that and so I hope do all the other art pieces I create.  I seldom paint from a  picture but often from what's in my head.  Kind of scary but this time it worked out well.

the birth of a cow....

Here is how my cow is coming along....

It's really fun for me to see how she takes on her personality with each stage.

This cow is bigger than the previous (24x24) but you can see they are still related...ha.  I love the big nose and how at the end it will pop off the canvas.  And the sly looks she gives you. I turn on some music and watch her come to life.  My style of painting starts with a reference but then it's all a "feeling" that comes over me as I paint...not much planning involved except I have an idea of what I want to create.  They say that it is bad not to "plan" but hey that's just me.

She's not finished yet and I will post the final painting when it happens.

Master's Oil Painting Class

starting point of  high lights and low lights
Thought it would be fun to start showing you some of the techniques I'm learning...This was such a different experience for me.  I take classes at Milan Fine Art Studios in good ol' QC.  This was a 3 week class so you can see the first, second and third night progression.

It was fascinating to see me actually paint a real bird.  A true test of patience on my part because as you know I like a much looser brighter style.  Elli told me it would stretch my skills and that it did.  The first 2 weeks were great as it wasn't exacting.  The third proved to be harder for me probably more because I was painting from a picture.  I usually have a picture to reference but don't have any intention of making it
adding transparent colors
look realistic.

The second week we added transparent colors and mixed in white at the end. That was the magic.  It changed and brightened the painting so easily.  The third night we started adding the details.

The key to success is to keep trying new things!  It's so much fun...I'll show more paintings in progress because it is fun to see.  At least that's what my friends tell me.

I'll post the final painting soon...it's being fine tuned now.

adding white to brighten it up...details are next.
